Hon. David Peterson, P.C., Q.C. and Yves Fortier, C.C., O.Q., Q.C. have agreed to Co-Chair an initiative called Lawyers Against Landmines. Their request was very simple: that lawyers and others in law firms across Canada host dinners to rid the world of anti-personnel landmines.

In 2001 the Canadian Landmine Foundation created an event called Night of A Thousand Dinners (N1KD) which is now the world's premier fundraising event for humanitarian mine action. This year we are again asking that Canadians hold dinners.

The 'dinner' can be as simple as inviting friends, neighbours or business colleagues for a meal, or cocktails. By registering the dinner through www.clmf.org, each Host will receive a kit including a DVD about the landmine issue so that it is an informed gathering. Rather than guests bringing flowers or wine, they are invited to make a donation. 100% of donations raised through N1KD are tax receiptable and every cent is used to fund landmine action projects.

When registering, please select Lawyers Against Landmines as your affiliation and enter your firms' name as the organisation. By doing so, funds raised will be tracked and reported back. Specific project work will be undertaken in the name of Lawyers Against Landmines.

We encourage you to give this some thought and to participate. While people are encourage to participate at their convenience, the official date, March 1st, marks the entry of the Ottawa Convention into international law.
